Have you bought duct tape lately? You had many more decisions to make than strength and length. There is now a dazzling array of patterns and colors! Who knew duct tape could be so exciting? It’s amazing how a tape company has expanded their market by becoming a significant player in the arts and crafts world.  They adapted and took advantage of an opportunity. New Mexico CowBelles have a chance to do the same thing by taking advantage of an awesome opportunity offered by American National Cattle Women.Read the rest

Shot in the Arm

I make a motion that we rename our Summer Meeting to the “Booster Meeting.” If you were able to join us in Ruidoso you’ll understand my sentiment, if not let me explain. High schools have booster clubs to support their sports teams, kiddos get a booster shot to strengthen the efficacy of their vaccines, and CowBelles have a “Booster Meeting” to inspire our desire for BEEF promotion.Read the rest

Growing As We Go

We appreciate you. To all CowBelles members, new or experienced, active locally or on the state level, engaged or just paying dues, thank you.  Thank you for your time and effort to make your CowBelle local successful.

But there is one area where we’re not experiencing success, and that is in our membership numbers. While some locals are holding steady or even gaining membership, across the board our numbers are dwindling.

District Wrap-Up

Amazing. The more time I spend meeting CowBelles across the state, the more I’m amazed by what you do to spread awareness of BEEF in particular and agriculture in general. Thank you to these hosting locals and their respective presidents: Silver Spurs – Rachel Ricklefs; Otero – Linda Lee; Tobosa Belles – Calista Kerr; Chamiza – Gloria Petersen

These ladies and their hard working crews organized district workshops that offered delicious beef meals, beautiful decorations and lots of local flare.

Are You Tired Yet?

Issue Fatigue iSHoo/ fəˈ’teg/ (noun) extreme tiredness of a particular topic.

4-H/FFA/Church responsibilities, and oh ya – the ranch, it’s hard to find time to be politically involved. Plus is feels like your one comment, presentation, post, letter to the editor, or tweet couldn’t possibly make a difference.

District Workshops, State-wide Outreach

It’s that time of the year again, eagerly awaited by fellow CowBelles as an opportunity to get together, catch up with one another and learn something about the state of the BEEF community – District Workshops. I know the hosting locals are planning wonderful experiences for participants including delicious meals, local entertainment and fun door prizes.Read the rest

The case of the disappearing burger

I’ve been thinking a lot about beef lately as I see less and less of it on the school lunch menu. Beef has become a rarity on the cafeteria tray as school nutrition coordinators with an anti-meat agenda use finances as an excuse to do away with this vital protein. Pretty soon they won’t need the financial excuse as the United States Department of Agriculture prepares to eliminate any mention of beef in the latest edition of the dietary guidelines.Read the rest
